need resistor to lower the speed on a 24v gear head motor on the inside of a dj light?

hi i have a double rolling balls dj light and since i have had it it is spinning too fast and i need to know what type of resistor i need to lower the voltage going to the motor inside the dj light unit by 3v ,here is a photo of the exact light i have

So, in essence, you have 24v that you wish to reduce to 21v.; 3 volts drop.

You need to know the current that the device will draw at 21v. Suppose this current is A amps. Then the resistor = 3/A.
The power dissipated by this resistor – which could be considerable – will be (3 x A )watts.
If A = 3 amps, that’s 9 watts.

► Answer: The type of resistor you need is a wire-wound. The above calculation was just for illustrative purposes; you only asked for the’ type’ of resistor, not its value.

Personally, I wouldn’t do it that way. I’d use an electronic voltage regulator. And that way, you can aDJust the voltage that gets to your device over a wide range. There will still be the heat issue to deal with though.

Help with dj gear…?

Ok, i wanna start a dj career, just somethign to do in my spare time though, small partys, back yards and houses and stuff to start off. Im looking at http://www.kpodj.com/kpodj-just-laptop-beginner-p-101356.html For speakers.. Do you think this is worth buying? i mean im using Home theater speakers right now, 5.1 but i dont really wanna push those too far, you think the "Just add a laptop" ones are at least going to be better then the home speaker ones? oh and it says it has a built in amp so i dont even have to buy an amp? just plug in and use?
Thanks in advance, Ryan

Those are pretty small speakers for a DJ – they have only 5 inch woofers and they don’t tell you how much power they have (probably less than 50 watts per speaker). They would be OK for your room but they will not rock the party. They probably will not be as loud as your home theater speakers if you have a 100 watt per speaker System.

I would save your money for better speakers. Here is the minimum speakers I would recommend for good DJ sound:

http://www.kpoDJ.com/behringer-behringer-b212d-powered-p-101441.html

Those have 12 inch woofers and around 500 watts per speaker – even those would be considered pretty small speakers for a DJ.

How do I set up my dj midi controller to play through my speaker monitors?

I have the following Equipment:
Stanton SCS 3 system
Laptop
Heaphones
Speaker Monitors

I ultimately trying to get the sound to come out of my speaker monitors but I know I am missing a few things. Would the speaker monitors need a pre-amp or could I just plug them into a behringer audio Mixer?

So I’m thinking it would be connected like this, but I’m not quite sure yet…

Speaker monitors -> preamp-> mixer -> usb audio interface (i was thinking of getting an audio 2 dj)-> headphones would be attached to the interface -> the interface would be attached to the computer which would be running Traktor Pro and lastly the DJ mixing gear (aka the Stanton SCS 3) would be hook up on the other usb port of the computer.

Anything else I’m missing? Am I completely wrong??
they’re not powered speakers, but now i’m thinking of getting my hands on a powered audio mixer so i can just hook it up that way…

Are these "powered speakers"? In other words speakers that have an amp built in and a power switch and volume controls?

If so, you can connect these directly to the output of the mixer – no preamp needed.
