I want to DJ! Does anyone have tips for beginners?

Yeah, I want to DJ because it looks fun :) Does anybody have tips for DJing? And what turntable should I buy that’s $100-$400 (I only want to use turntables because it’s like the main equipment for DJing)?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKn9qeAIRzI&feature=related

^In that video is only a turntable required for that? And do you just pop a cd into it and remix it? Sorry I’m new :P Thanks.

Usually, people who mix vinyl – use records – have two turntables and a Mixer. You might be able to get some of these used. You will also need An amplifier, speakers, and of course, records to mix. $400 might not be enough. Also – turntables need cartridges as well.

Turntables do not play cds, but you could get a cd player for very little.

Find a local dj that might teach you some basics. You might have to set up his equipment or carry boxes, but it is a small price for the education.

The Standard turntable for a long time was the Technics SL-1200 Turntable. You can get one for about 100 used (they retailed at over 400 at one time) Try ebay if you can’t find one at a local dj store, sam ash or guitar center. Stanton and ortofon cartridges are also the industry standard.

By the way, the ortofon turntable that DJ Qbert has mastered costs $1100 for the turntable, but the mixer is built in.

Good Luck!
