Bring Me The Horizon’s Biography
Bring me the horizon is not your run-of-the-mill deathcore band. For one thing, its name comes from a highly-popular line uttered by the fictional Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of Caribbean movie, which is unexpected for the band of this type. For another thing, its band members established their own record company in 2005, Thirty Days of Night, in order to release its debut single.
Band Members Officially formed in 2004, Bring Me the Horizon is composed of musicians from the local area of Sheffield, Yorkshire. Currently, the band members are Oliver Sykes on vocals, Lee Malia on lead guitar, Matt Kean on bass guitar and Matt Nicholls on drums. Curtis Ward, who used to play the rhythm guitar, left the band in March 2009.
The band has had its share of controversy during its young life. Sykes was charged with common assault based on a female fan’s allegations. The charges were later dismissed due to lack of evidence although it should be noted that Sykes maintained his innocence.
During a tour with the Architects, a progressive metalcore band from Brighton, Bring Me the Horizon’s Sykes was filmed being subjected to violent behavior by Sam Carter of the Architects. It was a viral hit in YouTube, which generated intense hate mail for Carter although the whole video was done as a staged scene to relieve boredom on the road by both parties. Discography sales appears to be keeping up with the sales of the band’s three albums, of which the titles, date of release, number of songs, and chart peaks are as follows:
– This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was For, 2004, four tracks, and topping at 41 in the United Kingdom.
– Count Your Blessings, 2006, 11 songs, peaked the UK charts at 93.
– Suicide Season, 2008, 10 tracks two music videos and downloadable desktop wallpapers.
While the first album was first released under the Thirty Days of Night label originally, all three were released under Visible Noise. The band is under contract with Visible Noise in the UK, Epitaph Records in the U.S. and in Australia, the contract is with Shock Records. Death-core Genre: Bring Me the Horizon’s music is a combination of death metal and metal core, which is characterized by growls and screams with metal core vocals, along with the muted riffs and dissonance. With musical influences from The Red Chord, Norma Jean and other American metal-core acts, they are set apart from other death-core bands because of their musical techniques. Besides the immense vocals and massive riffs, blistering percussion and tempo changes, shredding solos are part of their unique style.
To further cement its reputation, and maybe to increase the sales of the Bring Me the Horizon merchandise, the band has achieved awards like the Kerrang!’s Award for Best British Newcomer (2006) and nominated for Award for Best British Band (2008). Truly, with Bring Me the Horizon’s solid direction and songwriting focus, the band may yet join the halls of metal legends.
